We are in the middle of a big city. What do we see? In a restaurant, a woman uses her sick mother as an excuse not to move in with her boyfriend. In a bicycle shop, a man writes a love poem into thin air. In the park, one woman convinces another to vote for a new gun control law. In the polluted river, anglers discover dead fish. Again and again, our gaze wanders to the flat of Erik and Nino, a couple who are slowly drifting apart, almost unintentionally. The play paints a panorama of a society in which people are accessible and shy, pleasure-seeking and fearful. Only the eldest, Mrs Yamamoto, leaves her door open to let a draught in, so that the world can enter – in all its beauty and cruelty.

A Rhine crime thriller with music in cooperation with CORRECTIV by Calle Fuhr

A gruesome discovery on the beautiful Rhine in Cologne poses a mystery: young activist Luise is found dead, washed up on the riverbank. Inspector Clara and her colleague Hans begin investigating the murder and become entangled in a web of environmental pollution, online threats and encrypted company data. They fish in murky waters until they finally uncover explosive information about a large regional chemical company. Water evokes emotions. For the Cologne soul in particular, it is more than just a biological elixir necessary for survival: numerous myths and stories lie slumbering at the bottom of the Rhine, and no other German body of water has been sung about as much as the Rhine. The title of the play is taken from a famous line in a song by the Cologne band Bläck Fööss. But how clean is the Rhine? Peppered with Rhineland songs, Calle Fuhr's DAT WASSER VUN KÖLLE ES JOT tells a Cologne crime story that reveals uncomfortable facts about the water quality of the Rhine: explosive research findings by the investigative media company CORRECTIV are brought to the stage.

"Have you already voted? We have, thank you very much. Tomorrow it will be someone else's turn, but it will take a while until tomorrow." When Donald Trump was elected 45th President of the USA in 2016, Elfriede Jelinek began writing the theatre text "Am Königsweg". It features a series of tragicomic characters: a corrupt king who has made a fortune from property, golf courses and casinos. A blind seer whose eyes bleed in the face of his rise. And many other blind people who are outraged in disbelief while the king creates new conditions. A lot has changed in the world since this text was published. Right-wing ideas have reached the centre of society, even in Germany.
